ISLAMABAD, Apr 23 (APP):The Supreme Court on Monday ordered Inspector Generals Police (IGPs) to ensure
security to those persons who face genuine security threats.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, passed the order
while hearing a suo moto notice related to security protocol of personnel with
non-entitled persons.
During course of proceedings the Chief Justice remarked that some people
had objections regarding the order of retracting security, however those facing
a security risk, should keep and maintain their escorts.
The Chief Justice made it clear that the step was taken to save taxpayers’
money.
The CJP remarked that “They do not want to put anyone’s life in danger if
any one has genuine threats, then a lawful security should be ensured.”
Islamabad Inspector General of Police Sultan Azam Temuri informed the
court that they provide security personnel on the directions of Interior Ministry.
At this point, the Chief Justice said “We would review the situation again,”
and added “if Nawaz Sharif and Asfand Yar Wali are liable for security, then
they must be given so according to law.”
He remarked that he had seen children driving government vehicles in
Lahore. “These should not be misused,” he added.
The Chief Justice then directed the provinces to come up with security
guidelines while restoring former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Asfand
Yae Wali’s lawful security.
It may added that the Chief Justice had earlier directed the inspector-generals
of Islamabad and all four provinces to take back security escorts from people who
are not entitled to it.
As a result, around 13,000 police officials were called back from their respective
security duties. The hearing was then adjourned for a week.
