According to an official announcement issued by the Office of the Administrator and Medical Director of UCH, here on Saturday, the collaboration will enable the provision of corneal tissues through the Sri Lankan Embassy, while all logistical arrangements and transplant procedures will be carried out at United Christian Hospital by its qualified medical team in accordance with regulatory requirements.
The hospital described the partnership as one of the most important developments in recent years, reflecting its continued commitment to clinical excellence, ethical medical practice and compassionate healthcare delivery.
Under the initiative, eligible patients will be able to receive corneal transplant surgeries entirely free of cost, ensuring that individuals suffering from corneal blindness can access life-changing treatment regardless of their financial circumstances.
The hospital administration said the transplant procedures will commence after the issuance of a required No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Human Organ Transplant Authority (HOTA), Pakistan.
Medical Director Dr. Aakash Mathew and Administrator Shazar Shoukat said the collaboration represents a shared humanitarian effort aimed at restoring sight and improving the quality of life for patients in need. They added that the initiative will strengthen international medical cooperation while reaffirming UCH’s mission to provide equitable healthcare and renewed hope to those suffering from preventable or treatable visual impairment.
The hospital expressed optimism that the partnership will pave the way for sustainable eye care programmes and contribute to the broader goal of combating corneal blindness in Pakistan.
