PFA seizes 250kg substandard vermicelli in Kot Addu

KOT ADDU, Mar 07 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a crackdown on substandard food production units in Kot Addu, confiscating around 250 kilograms of poor-quality vermicelli,officials said on Saturday.
According to a PFA spokesperson,the operation was conducted under the supervision of Director Operations South-I as part of a special campaign against the preparation and sale of adulterated food items in the region.
During inspections,teams found that vermicelli was being prepared using unidentified ingredients and artificial coloring,posing potential health risks to consumers.
Authorities also observed poor hygiene and non-compliance with food safety standards in the production areas.
The seized vermicelli was destroyed on the spot to prevent its supply to the market.
Fines totaling Rs.240,000 were imposed on the owners of five food units for violations of food safety regulations.
The Director Operations South said the campaign against substandard vermicelli producers was ongoing and strict action will continue against those compromising public health.
