LAHORE, Mar 07 (APP):Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan has ordered strict action against transporters found overcharging passengers in the wake of the recent increase in petroleum prices.
According to a handout issued here on Saturday, the minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure that passengers were not exploited and instructed officials to remain active in the field to monitor transport fares.
He also ordered the issuance of revised fare lists in accordance with the latest prices of petroleum products so that fares remain justified and transparent for commuters.
To strengthen monitoring, special teams have been constituted and all Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) have been directed to take immediate practical steps regarding transport fares and submit compliance reports.
Minister Bilal Akbar Khan warned that strict action would be taken against transporters charging fares higher than the officially notified rates. He said only a justified increase in fares, in line with petroleum prices, would be allowed.
The minister emphasized that transporters violating the notified fare lists would face strict legal action.
