PTI founder case: court closes new challan after prior acquittal

The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Tuesday sine die adjourned a newly submitted challan against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) after confirming that he had already been acquitted in the same case linked to the Azadi March registered at Tarnol Police Station.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 31 (APP): The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Tuesday sine die adjourned a newly submitted challan against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) after confirming that he had already been acquitted in the same case linked to the Azadi March registered at Tarnol Police Station.

Judicial Magistrate Shehzad Khan presided over the hearing.

During the proceedings, lawyers Sardar Masroof and Zahid Bashir Dar appeared on behalf of the PTI founder. They informed the court that their client had already been acquitted in the same case earlier.

The prosecution had submitted a new challan in the case despite the previous acquittal. The defense counsel questioned this move and told the court that such a situation had not been seen before, where a person acquitted in a case faces a fresh challan in the same matter.

Judicial Magistrate Shehzad Khan asked the defense to present the earlier acquittal order. The lawyers submitted the document in court for review.

After examining the record and the previous court order, the judge decided to sine die adjourned the new challan. The case was filed in connection with the Azadi March and had been registered at Tarnol Police Station.
