ISLAMABAD, Jul 31 (APP):In a groundbreaking move to empower youth and revolutionize the digital gaming landscape, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Esports Federation and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The MoU was signed during an inaugural ceremony held on Thursday, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at fostering esports, digital skills, and entrepreneurship among Pakistani youth.
The agreement sets the stage for the development of Pakistan’s first National Esports Policy and the formation of a Pakistan Esports Federation, which will oversee the regulation and growth of the country’s emerging esports ecosystem. The partnership also envisions the formal recognition of esports as an official sport in Pakistan.
Under the MoU, several initiatives are set to be launched, including:
Esports training programs and academies
State-of-the-art digital gaming arenas
High-speed internet infrastructure tailored for gaming and commercialization of local game development enhanced access for Pakistani gamers to global platforms
Notable international figures present at the ceremony included Layne Robinson, Head of Social Policy from the Commonwealth, as well as Thomas Dore and Kalam Neale from the British Esports Federation.
Speaking at the event, Syeda Amnah Batool, Focal Person of PMYP, emphasized the significance of the collaboration. “This is a major step towards youth empowerment and digital progress in Pakistan,” she stated, adding that the initiative will open new avenues for innovation, creativity, and career opportunities in the rapidly growing global gaming industry.
With this MoU, Pakistan takes a significant step forward in integrating its youth into the global digital economy—offering them tools, platforms, and policies to compete and succeed on an international scale.
