PM keen to work with Canadian leadership for stronger bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that he looked forward to working with Canadian leadership to build stronger bilateral ties, highlighting that mines and minerals were an important area of mutual interest.

The prime minister, in a meeting with the newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada in Pakistan Ambassador Tarik Ali Khan, who paid a courtesy call on him, conveyed his warm regards and greetings to the Canadian leadership.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch also attended the meeting.

The prime minister felicitated the high commissioner on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would further strengthen the long-standing and friendly relations between Pakistan and Canada.

He said that Barrick Gold’s role in the Reko Diq project would be the harbinger of development in Pakistan and a success story of Pakistan-Canada economic cooperation.

The Canadian high commissioner thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and expressed his resolve to work towards further enhancing Pakistan–Canada bilateral relations, particularly in agriculture, energy, trade, investment, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz lauded the valuable contribution of the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Canada, which continues to serve as a vital bridge between the two nations.
