PEMRA follows Three-Tier action against TV channels for code violations: Daniyal Chaudhry

Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Daniyal Chaudhry informed the National Assembly that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has a clear code of conduct and a structured mechanism to deal with violations by television channels.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 09 (APP): Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Daniyal Chaudhry informed the National Assembly that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has a clear code of conduct and a structured mechanism to deal with violations by television channels.
Responding during the Question Hour, he said that PEMRA follows a three-tier enforcement mechanism for addressing violations. Initially, the authority issues show-cause notices to the concerned channels if a violation is reported.
“If the explanation is not satisfactory, the authority can impose penalties,” he said, adding that fines had recently been levied on some TV channels for violating regulatory rules.
The parliamentary secretary said PEMRA can also issue directives to media outlets to ensure compliance with the code of conduct and prevent further violations.
He added that the authority actively monitors media content and takes action based on public complaints. “If a complaint is received and the violation is confirmed, the matter is taken seriously and appropriate action is taken,” he said.
Chaudhry noted that PEMRA has established first, second, and third levels of regulatory response to ensure that media organizations adhere to professional and legal standards.
