ISLAMABAD, Mar 19 (APP):Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif, has expressed profound grief over the passing of celebrated fiction writer, novelist, poet, and essayist Sameena Syed.
In her condolence message, Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif said that Sameena Syed’s valuable contributions to Urdu and Punjabi literature will never be forgotten. “Her versatile literary talent is an irreparable loss to the literary community,” she added. She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended her heartfelt condolences to the family, wishing them patience and strength during this difficult time.
Born in Pakpattan, Sameena Syed was associated with the teaching profession for many years and served as Vice President of the literary organization Seva International. She also wrote numerous radio plays and regularly recorded short stories for broadcast. Her literary works appeared in national and international journals, including Bayaz, Adab Dost, Duniya-e-Adab, Takhleeq, Mafahim, Fanoos, Sha’er, Urdu Digest, Deedban, and Salas.
Her notable publications include Ruddad-e-Mohabbat (short stories), Kahani Safar Mein Hai (short stories), Hijr Ke Bahao Mein (poetry collection), Raat Noon Dako (Punjabi stories), Jaan Nisar Dost (translation of the English novel The Devoted Friend), Dr. Yasin Aatir: Ishq Waseela Se Riazat Tak (booklet), Samne Maat Hai (poetry collection), Zan-e-Zindagi (novel), and Nayaab Hain Hum (essays, under publication).
The literary fraternity has voiced deep sorrow at the demise of Sameena Syed, whose writings enriched Urdu and Punjabi literature.
