ISLAMABAD, Oct 29 (APP):Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to tackling climate change and advancing sustainable development at a major international climate forum in South Korea.
Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Kharal, addressed delegates at the 14th Assembly Session and 18th Council Session of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Seoul on Wednesday.
The state minister in her address, titled “Implementing International Carbon Markets: Country Experiences and Strategic Pathways to 2023,” said Pakistan had shown “significant commitment and leadership” in confronting the challenges of climate change both at home and abroad.
“Pakistan’s comprehensive climate agenda focuses on building resilience, reducing emissions and mobilising climate finance,” she said, adding that the government was implementing a wide range of policies to strengthen the country’s response to global warming.
The session was attended by representatives from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Senegal, Norway, Sweden, and Zambia, along with climate experts, NGOs and members of the media.
Dr Kharal is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Norway’s delegation and representatives of several international NGOs on the sidelines of the conference to explore partnerships on climate adaptation and green growth initiatives.
The Global Green Growth Institute, chaired by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, is an international organisation that promotes environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic development.
