NHMP returns over Rs 2.4m to passengers, fines 13,000 vehicles in crackdown

ISLAMABAD, Mar 18 (APP):The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has returned more than Rs 2.4 million to passengers during a nationwide crackdown against overcharging and overloading launched on March 15 on the directives of Inspector General Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry.
According to an NHMP spokesperson, the special campaign is being carried out across the country to curb overcharging by public transporters and ensure strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
During the ongoing drive, more than Rs2.4 million collected as excess fares have been recovered and returned to passengers at various locations.
The spokesman said that over 13,000 vehicles have been fined for violations, including overloading, overcharging and incomplete travel documents, reflecting the authority’s zero-tolerance policy towards public service vehicles violating rules.
He added that citizens can register their complaints directly with motorway police officers, through the helpline 130, or via the official social media handle @NHMP for prompt redressal.
The spokesperson further said that in line with austerity and fuel conservation measures, more than 27,000 vehicles have been fined since March 12 for violating the newly introduced speed limits.
NHMP officers are also actively engaged in creating awareness among commuters at toll plazas across the country regarding road safety and compliance with the revised speed limits.
