ISLAMABAD, May 21 (APP):National Assembly Standing Committee will now review concerns regarding favoritism in the registration of medical colleges, as directed by Presiding Officer Abdul Qadir Patel. The matter was raised on Wednesday during the National Assembly’s Question Hour.
The Federal Ministry of National Health Services informed the House that under an agreement between Pakistan and Hungary, scholarships are being awarded to 1,000 students.
PPP MNA Sharmila Faruqi criticized the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), alleging that favoritism is influencing the issuance of licenses to medical colleges.
She revealed that an inquiry is currently underway into the registration process of seven medical colleges. She said that registrations should be conducted transparently and strictly on merit.
Chairman Patel noted that around Rs. 500 million annually is spent on medical education abroad, pointing to the financial and academic impact of the alleged favoritism.
He referred the issue to the relevant parliamentary committee and instructed that PMDC officials be summoned to respond. Patel added that due to preferential treatment, the education of students is being adversely affected.
