ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (APP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to ensure the vaccination of stray dogs and clarified that if evidence of killing dogs is found, a case should be registered against those responsible.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, while hearing the case, sought an explanation from the CDA Director Municipal Administration on the allegations of killing stray dogs and ordered him to appear in court in person.
The court said in its written order that the 2020 policy regarding stray dogs should be fully implemented in Islamabad, while in view of the seriousness of the matter, further hearing of the case has been fixed for October 27.
Lawyer Altamish Saeed, while arguing on behalf of the petitioner, a female citizen, Nilofar, took the stand that the authorities had told the court that Rs 19,000 per dog was being spent on catching and vaccinating dogs, however, the photographs submitted to the court showed that the dogs were killed.
According to the written order, the dead dogs were found in a vehicle owned by the CDA, while eyewitness Dr. Ghani Ikram appeared in the court. The witness told the court that he was an eyewitness to the incident and that upon his arrival, the CDA driver fled the scene with the dead dogs. The court, while accepting the citizen’s miscellaneous application, also allowed him to become a party in the main case.
