ICT Police net kites, chemical string; two held including Afghan national

ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police’s Lohi Bher police station team have arrested two persons, including an Afghan national, and seized a large quantity of kites, hazardous chemical string, reels and other prohibited material during an ongoing crackdown against kite flying and the use of deadly chemical string in the federal capital.
A police spokesperson told APP on Sunday that the operation was carried out on the special directives of SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza and under the supervision of SP Sohan Zone Khurram Ashraf.
He said the action was led by SHO Lohi Bher Police Station Fawad Khalid during routine patrolling and checking. The police team intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration number JA-6162, traveling from Peshawar to Gujranwala.
During a thorough search of the bus, police recovered a heavy quantity of illegally transported kite-flying material, including chemical string, kites, spinning reels (charkhis) and other banned items, the spokesperson said.
He added that the bus driver, Dawood Khan, a resident of Charsadda and a passenger, Naeem, a resident of Afghanistan, were arrested on the spot. Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway.
ICT Police reiterated that kite flying and the use of chemical string pose a serious threat to human lives and public safety. The spokesperson said a zero-tolerance policy is being strictly enforced against those involved in the manufacturing, transportation and sale of such hazardous material.
He urged citizens to completely refrain from kite flying and the use of chemical string and to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies to help protect precious human lives and ensure public safety in the city.
