Govt taking steps for modernizing agri- sector: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sahibzada Mahboob Sultan Thursday said the government was taking various steps for evolving comprehensive policy to introduce modern technology for the development of Agri-sector.
Addressing a seminar organized by Kissan Ittehad Board, he said that during the tenure of past regimes the agriculture sector was badly ignored and neglected and no policy had made to support the
the farmer in a bid to boost agriculture of the country.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Federal Minister Inter Provincial Coordination Fahmida Mirza and other members of parliament attended the event.

Agriculture was the top priorities of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said the government was taking revolutionary steps for modernizing the sector and to make it profit oriented and competitive.
He said that it was the need of hour to use the modern techniques for increasing the per acre yield,adding, the government had already allocated funds for the research and development activities to put the agri-sector on modern lines.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Recourses Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that the farmers were the backbone of the country’s production and added the government was fully committed to support them by providing them agricultural support, besides resolving their other problems at their doorsteps.
Later, Federal Minister Inter Provincial Coordination Fahmida Mirza said that the agriculture sector were providing huge employment opportunities particularly in rural areas of the country.
She said that today, Pakistan is facing issue of climate change, which effect the agriculture also particularly cotton crops in different regions of the country.
She said that agriculture is big role in country’s economy.
While on the occasion, President PKA, Khalid Khokar highlighted the major issue of agriculture sector particularly the issue of small farmers.
