Govt appoints Zia Hussain Shah as new Chairman of PNRA

The government has officially appointed Zia Hussain Shah as Chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) for a term of four years, with effect from February 16.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 09 (APP):The government has officially appointed Zia Hussain Shah as Chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) for a term of four years, with effect from February 16.
Zia Hussain Shah brings over three decades of distinguished experience in nuclear safety, radiation protection, and regulatory affairs.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman, he served as Member (Executive) of PNRA, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan’s nuclear safety standards and regulatory oversight.
Throughout his career, Shah has held key technical and leadership positions, making significant contributions to the development of Pakistan’s nuclear regulatory framework.
He possesses extensive international experience, with particular expertise in providing regulatory support to countries embarking on nuclear power programs and leading international peer review missions aimed at advancing effective regulatory infrastructure.
As Chairman, Zia Hussain Shah will lead PNRA in fulfilling its core mission — ensuring the safe operation of nuclear installations and radiation facilities in order to protect workers, the public, and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation — while upholding international best practices in nuclear regulation.
The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority is the country’s principal body responsible for regulating nuclear safety and radiation protection, ensuring the safe and secure use of nuclear technology for the benefit of the nation.
