Gilgit Judicial Commission completes detailed site inspection into recent unrest

The Judicial Inquiry Commission, constituted in the wake of recent unrest in Gilgit, has completed a comprehensive and meticulous inspection of the incident site, expanding the scope of its investigation.

GILGIT, Apr 02 (APP): The Judicial Inquiry Commission, constituted in the wake of recent unrest in Gilgit, has completed a comprehensive and meticulous inspection of the incident site, expanding the scope of its investigation.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan Judicial Commission here Thursday, the body is headed by Chairman Justice Malik Inayatur Rehman, with Justice Johar Ali and Justice Jehangzeb Khan as its members.

During the visit, the Commission carried out a thorough assessment of material evidence, human and financial losses and the sequence as well as underlying causes of the incident. Immediately after the inspection, senior district administration and police officials appeared before the Commission and recorded their statements.

Officials who testified included Commissioner Gilgit Division Tauqeer Haider Kazmi, DIG Gilgit Region Raja Mazhar Hassan, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Adil, SP Gilgit Muhammad Owais, and SDPO City Khadija Tahira. They briefed the commission on the background of the incident, overall law and order situation, security measures taken, and the sequence of events.

The Commission examined evidence from both technical and legal perspectives and posed key questions aimed at establishing facts and determining responsibility. The spokesperson reiterated that the inquiry would be conducted in a transparent, impartial, and merit-based manner to bring all facts to light.

Meanwhile, around 10 citizens also approached the Commission to record their statements regarding the incident, a request that was accepted in accordance with legal procedures.
The Commission has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the causes, responsible elements, and administrative response to the recent events, and to propose effective and sustainable measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Relevant officials have already been summoned for further statements, while the Commission is also expected to visit Baltistan soon to carry out a similar inspection and record evidence. Upon completion of proceedings, the Commission will compile its final report along with recommendations and submit it to the concerned authorities.
