ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP):Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday warned that diabetes is spreading rapidly worldwide, affecting not only health but also economies and societies.
In a message for World Diabetes Day, he said the rising number of diabetes patients in Pakistan is a serious concern that requires immediate action.
He stressed that timely diagnosis, access to treatment, and public awareness are crucial to fighting the disease.
Gilani encouraged people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise, to prevent diabetes.
He said combating the disease is not just an individual effort but requires collective action from the public, healthcare professionals, civil society, and policymakers.
He highlighted the importance of raising awareness among young people, as unhealthy habits early in life increase the risk of diabetes later. Regular medical check-ups and early recognition of symptoms are key, he said.
The Senate Chairman said the government is developing a comprehensive strategy to prevent and treat diabetes, including improved healthcare facilities, easier access to medicines, and broader awareness programs.
Gilani also called on the global community to join efforts against diabetes and other non-communicable diseases, emphasising Pakistan’s active role in international health cooperation.
He urged citizens to take responsibility for their health, undergo regular check-ups, and adopt a healthy lifestyle to protect themselves and their families.
