FUUAST organized int’l webinar to commemorate World Science Day for Peace and Development

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (APP):Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST), Islamabad, in collaboration with international academic and scientific partners, successfully organized an International Webinar to commemorate World Science Day for Peace and Development 2025, observed on 10 November.
The event gathered distinguished scholars, diplomats, scientists, and academicians from across the globe to discuss the transformative role of science in promoting peace, cooperation, and sustainable progress.
The session was moderated by Dr Faisal Javaid, Focal Person of the event and representative of ORIC FUUAST, who skillfully guided the proceedings and highlighted the relevance of the theme in today’s global context.
The program featured an impressive lineup of eminent international and national speakers. Dr Adnan Badran, Former Prime Minister of Jordan, President of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), and Chancellor of the University of Petra, delivered a keynote address (recorded) on “Strengthening Scientific Capacity for Inclusive Growth in the OIC Region,” said a press release on Monday.
Ambassador Dr Jamil Ahmed Khan, Deputy Chair of the Senate, FUUAST, and former Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, Libya, and High Commissioner to Malta, delivered a keynote highlighting the importance of science diplomacy and peacebuilding in shaping a more stable and cooperative world.
Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, Vice Chancellor, FUUAST, shared his insights on “The Role of Universities in Advancing Science for Peace and Development,” emphasizing that universities serve as crucial platforms for nurturing ethical, innovative, and globally responsible researchers.
Prof Dr Ilsur Nafikov, Head of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies, Kazan Federal University, Russia, discussed “Bridging Eurasian Scientific Networks for Shared Prosperity,” highlighting opportunities for academic collaboration between Pakistan and Russia.
Prof Dr Shahbaz Khan, Director and Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Regional Office for East Asia (Beijing), delivered an inspiring address on “UNESCO’s Vision: Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation for Peace and Shared Prosperity,” underscoring UNESCO’s continuing efforts to connect science with sustainable development and human welfare.
In his concluding remarks, Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari, Vice Chancellor FUUAST, reiterated the importance of promoting scientific ethics, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among nations, particularly within the OIC member states, least developed countries (LDCs), and displaced scholars, to ensure that science becomes a tool for equity and peace.
The webinar reaffirmed the shared belief that science must serve as a bridge between societies, fostering global solidarity and addressing the world’s most pressing challenges through innovation and collaboration.
The event concluded with a note of appreciation for the participating institutions, speakers, and organizers for their valuable contributions toward advancing the global vision of science for peace and development.
