FTO’s Landmark Achievements in Taxpayer Grievance Redressal and Refunds of Over PKR 23 Billion in 4 years.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (APP): The Hon’ble Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO), Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah, took office on 30th September 2021. Since his appointment, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of complaints received, from 2,867 in 2021 to 35,716 in 2025, reflecting enhanced taxpayer confidence in the grievance redressal process. Under the leadership of Dr. Jah, the FTO Secretariat has successfully implemented 98% of the recommendations, with the President of Pakistan upholding approximately 97% of them.

Notably, the FTO’s tenure has resulted in a total of 64,664 complaints, surpassing the total complaints received during the past five tenures (21 years) combined. The Forum’s efforts have also led to recoveries exceeding PKR 23 billion, with an impressive average complaint resolution time of 34 days.

In addition to national achievements, Dr. Jah’s tenure has elevated the global standing of Pakistan’s Ombudsman framework, with members now holding key positions in international ombudsman organizations. The establishment of the Diplomatic Grievance Redressal Cell has further demonstrated the FTO’s commitment to resolving diplomatic tax-related grievances in Islamabad.

Looking forward, other nations, including Bangladesh and Tanzania, are adopting Pakistan’s Tax Ombudsman model, marking a significant international milestone. Additionally, Dr. Jah’s commitment to youth development is evident through the successful completion of the 2025 Internship Program, offering over 150 young participants valuable experience in complaint handling, research, and outreach.

These achievements underline the Federal Tax Ombudsman’s unwavering dedication to enhancing taxpayer confidence, ensuring speedy resolution, and fostering international collaboration.
