ISLAMABAD, Nov 04 (APP): The Islamabad district administration has launched a major crackdown against illegal brick kilns operating in the city, demolishing five units identified as key contributors to air pollution.
According to the district administration, the action was carried out following reports from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Assistant commissioners, in coordination with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Enforcement Directorate, led the operations across multiple areas of the capital.
During the joint operation, three illegal brick kilns were demolished on Monday by the Assistant Commissioner (Saddar), while two more were taken down on Tuesday. Officials said these units were operating without authorization and were found violating environmental safety regulations.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, directed that all illegal kilns be removed from the city without exception. He emphasized that the crackdown would continue on a daily basis until all such units are completely cleared from the capital.
“The district administration is committed to maintaining air quality and ensuring that no illegal kilns or polluting units operate in Islamabad,” DC Memon stated.
He further instructed assistant commissioners to maintain close coordination with the EPA and CDA for effective surveillance and enforcement. The operations are part of a broader environmental protection campaign aimed at minimizing sources of air pollution in the city.
Officials added that the administration has intensified inspections and will continue to identify and demolish any remaining illegal brick kilns. Public awareness drives and strict monitoring of industrial zones are also underway to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
The district administration reaffirmed that activities contributing to air pollution would not be tolerated within the federal capital and that further actions are being planned to curb emissions from unregulated industrial operations.
