Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) recorded a significant 63 percent reduction in road traffic accidents during Eid ul Fitr holidays while issuing over 3,400 challans in a comprehensive enforcement drive across the federal capital.
Eid accidents down 63% as ITP issues 3,400 challans across Capital

ISLAMABAD, Mar 24 (APP):Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) recorded a significant 63 percent reduction in road traffic accidents during Eid ul Fitr holidays while issuing over 3,400 challans in a comprehensive enforcement drive across the federal capital.
An official told APP on Tuesday that total accident calls during Eid holidays 2026 dropped to 23 compared to 64 reported during Eid holidays 2025, showing a 63 percent reduction. He said non-fatal accidents decreased from 17 to 7, reflecting a 59 percent decline, while fatal accidents dropped from 5 to 1, marking an 80 percent reduction.
He said that alongside improved traffic management, a special enforcement campaign was launched to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow in the city. During the campaign, a total of 3,439 challans were issued for various traffic violations.
The official said that one-wheeling topped the list of violations with 723 challans, followed by 716 challans issued to motorcyclists for not wearing helmets. He said 699 vehicles were fined for being without or un-patterned number plates, while 223 challans were issued for careless driving, 153 for illegal parking, 132 for lane violations, and 115 for driving without a licence.
He added that 74 challans were issued for seat belt violations and 68 for tinted glasses. During the Eid holidays, the police also impounded 1,272 vehicles and motorcycles, including 1,147 motorcycles and 125 other vehicles, while five FIRs were registered against serious violations.
He said special traffic deployment was arranged at major markets, parks, graveyards, recreational spots, and entry and exit points of the city to manage increased traffic load during Eid days. Strict action against over-speeding, one-wheeling, lane violations, and illegal parking contributed to improved road safety and a reduction in accidents.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad Hamzah Humayun appreciated the performance of traffic officers and thanked citizens for their cooperation. He said that adherence to traffic rules was essential to prevent accidents and save precious lives.
He urged road users to use helmets, wear seat belts, avoid over-speeding, and strictly follow traffic laws for their own safety as well as for others.
Islamabad Traffic Police reiterated its commitment to continuing enforcement and awareness campaigns to reduce traffic violations and protect human lives on the roads of the federal capital.
