ISLAMABAD, Jun 5 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday announced to name Justice (R) Dost Mohammad Khan as the caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Addressing a press briefing, Additional Secretary of ECP, Dr Aktar Nazeer said the government and the opposition of KP had sent the ECP four names to be considered for the position of an interim chief executive.
Earlier a consultative meeting of the election commission was held.
Former chief minister of KP Pervez Khattak from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had recommended bureaucrats Himayatullah Khan and Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi, while leader of the opposition Maulana Lutfur Rehman had proposed the names of businessperson Manzoor Khan Afridi and Justice ® Dost Muhammad Khan.
Former chief minister KP and leader of opposition had failed to reach a consensus for caretaker CM.
Later on, a parliamentary committee was formed to decide and appoint caretaker CM for the province.
However, prior to the meeting, Awami National Party (NAP) leader raised issues about the composition of the parliamentary committee therefore, the matter was forwarded to ECP.
Justice (R) Dost Muhammad Khan has served as a senior judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since February 1, 2014.
He remained Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court from November 17, 2011 to January 31, 2014.
He hails from district bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and obtained his law degree from Government Sindh Muslim Law College, Karachi in 1976. He remained President of District Bar Association, Bannu from 1986-87 and President of Peshawar High Court Bar Association D.I. Khan Bench from
1999-2000.
He joined judiciary as additional Judge in 2002.
