DPM for stronger monitoring mechanisms, compliance of austerity measures

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Thursday directed the relevant ministries and departments to further strengthen monitoring mechanisms of the austerity drive and strictly comply with the prescribed guidelines, and ensure fiscal discipline.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 26 (APP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Thursday directed the relevant ministries and departments to further strengthen monitoring mechanisms of the austerity drive and strictly comply with the prescribed guidelines, and ensure fiscal discipline.

The deputy prime minister was chairing a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Conservation and Additional Austerity Measures, reviewed the implementation status of previously approved austerity measures across ministries and provinces.

The committee focused on assessing the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives to ensure fiscal discipline in the prevailing situation.

He expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved so far, particularly in curtailing non-essential expenditures and improving resource efficiency.

The meeting was attended by the federal ministers for finance, petroleum, information technology, economic affairs, and information and broadcasting; Special Assistant to PM Tariq Bajwa, federal secretaries for IT and petroleum, chief secretaries of the provinces and other senior officials.
