ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP): Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Engr Waseem Nazir, has described 2026 as a defining milestone for the engineering community, marking the Golden Jubilee of PEC and setting the tone for renewed purpose, innovation, and leadership.
In his New Year message, he emphasized that the year must be dedicated to positive change, with quality, professionalism, ethics, and responsibility forming the core values guiding engineers in their professional and national roles. He underlined that the strength and progress of the engineering profession are inseparable from these principles.
Engr Waseem Nazir highlighted PEC’s strong institutional foundations and its standing among leading professional organizations globally. He stressed the need for unity within the engineering fraternity, urging engineers to rise above differences and move forward with a shared commitment to professionalism, integrity, and service to the nation. He noted that this historic phase calls for collective pride in the profession and a reaffirmation of engineers’ responsibility towards national development.
Reflecting on progress made during the past year, the Chairman stated that PEC launched several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the profession and empowering engineers. These include the Smart PEC Digital Drive, Graduate Engineers Trainee (GET) Program, establishment of the Young Engineers National Forum, creation of PEC desks in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Pathway to Practice framework, and countrywide consultative sessions with stakeholders. Additional measures such as Generative AI training for engineers, restructuring of PEC, and MoUs with NADRA, National Defence University (NDU), and other key organizations were also undertaken to modernize services, expand opportunities, and enhance institutional effectiveness.
Looking ahead, Engr Waseem Nazir outlined an ambitious agenda for 2026, focusing on improving the quality of engineering education, revising curricula in line with Washington Accord requirements, establishing Excellence Labs and advanced research centers, launching the Brain Gain Portal, and enhancing the international visibility of Pakistani engineers. He termed 2026 as a potential year of renaissance for PEC and the engineering community, aimed at achieving meaningful impact, professional pride, innovation, and sustainable progress for Pakistan.
