CDA, district teams put on high alert amid heavy rain in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Mar 30 (APP):The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and district administration have placed field teams on high alert following heavy rainfall in the federal capital, officials said on Monday.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, directed joint teams comprising the CDA, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), and emergency and disaster management departments to remain present in the field to ensure continuous monitoring of the situation.
According to the CDA, special focus has been placed on low-lying areas, with machinery and dewatering pumps deployed to prevent urban flooding.
Authorities said clearance operations were carried out at underpasses, interchanges and major highways to maintain traffic flow during the downpour.
Officials added that drains and waterways are being cleared of obstructions to improve drainage and minimise water accumulation in vulnerable areas. Arrangements have also been made to ensure effective water disposal at key points across the city.
The administration said emergency response systems have been activated, urging citizens to report issues through helpline numbers 16 and 1334. Authorities claimed that complaints received are being addressed on a priority basis.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and to follow safety instructions issued by the authorities.
Randhawa said the measures were aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining essential services during adverse weather conditions.
