ATC extends 2-day physical remand of 48 suspects in protest case

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad on Saturday extended the physical remand of 48 suspects by two days in a case related to protests held after the death of an international religious figure.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 07 (APP): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad on Saturday extended the physical remand of 48 suspects by two days in a case related to protests held after the death of an international religious figure.

Police presented the arrested individuals before the court and sought further custody for investigation.

The hearing took place at the Anti-Terrorism Court and was presided over by Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain.

During the proceedings, police requested six days of physical remand for the suspects, stating that further interrogation was required to complete the investigation.

According to the prosecution, the suspects were arrested during a protest held in the federal capital following the death of the international religious personality. Police said the gathering led to public disturbance and violations of law, prompting authorities to take action.

A total of 48 suspects were produced before the court by police officials. After hearing the request from investigators and reviewing the case record, the court approved an extension of two days in physical remand for all the accused.

The case has been registered at Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad. Police filed charges against the suspects under sections related to terrorism along with other legal provisions.

The court directed investigators to continue the probe during the remand period and present the suspects again after completion of the custody term.
