Application moved to stop IHCBA’s elections

ISLAMABAD, Feb 09 (APP): An application has been to the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) seeking to stop the Islamabad High Court Bar Association elections scheduled on February 14.
Bar member Advocate Mazharul Haq Hashmi filed a petition in the Pakistan Bar Council, in which it has been taken the position that the High Court Bar elections are to be held in the last week of February under the Legal and Practitioner Rules.
It is clearly written in the rules so that the elections of all High Courts can be held on the same day. In the eyes of the law, holding the High Court Bar elections on February 14 is illegal.
The petition has requested that the date of the February 14 elections be declared null and void and the Election Commission be ordered to give a new date. The Election Commission should be ordered to conduct free and transparent elections.
