Ali Pervaiz inaugurates production from Spinwam-1 in Waziristan block

ISLAMABAD, Apr 01 (APP):Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has inaugurated the commencement of production from the Spinwam-1 exploratory well in the Waziristan Block, adding 40 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD) and 220 barrels of condensate per day.

The Waziristan Joint Venture (WJV), operated by Mari Energies Limited (Mari Energies), has formally begun production from Spinwam-1.
According to a news release issued by the Ministry, the WJV comprises Mari Energies Limited (Operator, 55%), Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) (35%), and Orient Petroleum Inc. (10%).
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Mari Energies Head Office, was attended by the federal minister, who praised the joint venture’s technical expertise and operational excellence.
He said that discoveries like Spinwam-1 strengthen Pakistan’s energy security, reduce reliance on imports, and support sustainable economic growth.
On the occasion, the minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs from law enforcement agencies (LEAs), exploration and production (E&P) companies, and SNGPL teams. “These sacrifices have enabled us to stand here and celebrate this achievement,” he said.
He also lauded the efforts of E&P companies, expressing pride that local firms have stepped up to fill the vacuum created by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and with the support of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan has managed supply disruptions more effectively than many countries in the region.
He further said that fertilizer supply has been maintained with prices remaining comparatively lower due to the support of domestic E&P companies.
Faheem Haider, Managing Director and CEO of Mari Energies, highlighted that Spinwam-1 reflects the joint venture’s commitment to developing indigenous hydrocarbon resources, meeting growing energy demand, and enhancing the reliability of gas supply.
Spinwam-1 marks a significant milestone for the Waziristan JV, offering substantial gas and condensate potential. Following the Shewa-1 discovery, it is the second successful exploratory well in the block.
The well’s initial production included 40 MMCFD of gas and around 200 barrels per day of condensate, increasing total gas supply from the Waziristan Block to approximately 100 MMCFD for the national grid, along with around 800 barrels per day of condensate.
The start of production has been further facilitated by the completion of an SNGPL transmission pipeline, linking the Shewa-1 and Spinwam-1 discoveries to the national gas network.
Participants also paid tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs and injured personnel, including LEAs, employees, contractors, and SNGPL staff, acknowledging their courage, resilience, and dedication under challenging operational and security conditions.
The joint venture expressed optimism for continued support from LEAs, the government, and relevant authorities to unlock further exploration potential and contribute to the country’s long-term energy security.
