ISLAMABAD, Dec 31 (APP):The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has released its annual performance report for 2025, reporting the issuance of 30,241 emission stickers, enforcement action against 2,376 vehicles, and the granting of 72 route permits during the year.
The annual report was issued at the close of 2025 and outlines the authority’s work across public transport regulation, emission control, and enforcement against rule violations in Islamabad.
According to the report, the Islamabad Transport Authority issued 30,241 emission stickers to vehicles during the year. These stickers were provided after emission checks conducted under the vehicle emission testing system. The authority stated that the aim of the program is to monitor vehicle emissions and reduce harmful output from transport operating within city limits.
The report stated that enforcement teams carried out actions against 2,376 vehicles during different operations in 2025. These actions were taken for violations related to transport rules, vehicle fitness, emissions, and route compliance. The authority did not specify the breakdown of each category but confirmed that enforcement was conducted across multiple sectors of the city.
During the year, the Islamabad Transport Authority issued 72 route permits, according to the annual report. These permits were granted to transport operators to regulate movement on approved routes. The authority stated that route permits are issued to ensure organized transport flow and to manage passenger services within designated corridors.
The report further noted that 144 vehicles were fined for violating route permit conditions. These violations included operating outside approved routes or failing to comply with permit terms. Heavy fines were imposed as part of enforcement measures to ensure compliance with transport regulations.
In another category of enforcement, 108 vehicles were penalized and shifted to police stations after being declared unfit. The report states that these vehicles were found to be unsafe for operation on roads. The authority said such actions were taken to reduce the risk of accidents caused by mechanically unfit vehicles.
The report also highlighted actions taken against vehicles contributing to air pollution. According to the figures, 185 vehicles identified as sources of air pollution were shifted to police stations during various operations. These actions were part of efforts to control emissions and improve air quality in the city.
As a result of different enforcement actions, the Islamabad Transport Authority imposed total fines amounting to Rs234,500 during the year, the report states. The fines were collected from violations related to route permits, vehicle fitness, and emission standards.
Chairman Islamabad Transport Authority, Irfan Nawaz Memon, stated that the authority carried out focused actions to protect the city’s air from pollution. He said operations were conducted to check emissions and ensure that vehicles operating on roads met required standards.
According to the chairman, the vehicle emission testing system has been strengthened during the year. Under this system, four special testing booths have been established at different locations in the city. These booths are used to conduct emission tests and issue stickers to vehicles that meet the required criteria.
Irfan Memon also stated that strict action against unfit vehicles that pose risks of accidents will continue. He said vehicles found to be unsafe will face penalties and removal from roads to ensure public safety.
The Islamabad Transport Authority stated that public awareness remained part of its approach during 2025. Information related to emission testing, route permits, and compliance requirements was shared through official channels to inform transport operators and vehicle owners.
The report also points to challenges related to traffic growth and pollution. Officials stated that continued monitoring and enforcement are required to address these issues. The authority plans to maintain checks on emissions and vehicle fitness in the coming year.
According to the report, the authority will continue issuing route permits based on transport needs and regulatory requirements. Enforcement against permit violations will remain in place to ensure that transport services operate within approved frameworks.
