ISLAMABAD, Feb 06 (APP):At least 15 lives were lost and more than 80 people were injured in a blast that occurred at Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra in the Tralai area of the federal capital during Friday prayers.
An official told APP that the injured were shifted to PIMS, Polyclinic Hospital and CDA Hospital, where an emergency was imposed to ensure immediate medical treatment. He said several of the injured were in critical condition.
The official said that the incident is being described as a suspected suicide attack, however, investigations are still underway and the exact nature of the blast has not yet been confirmed.
He added that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Islamabad Qazi Ali Raza was present at the scene, overseeing rescue operations, security arrangements and coordination with emergency services.
Following the incident, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi imposed an emergency in the federal capital and directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert.
The blast site was completely sealed, while bomb disposal and investigation teams collected evidence. The official said citizens were urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as the probe continues.
