ABBOTTABAD, Mar 30 (APP):Five people, including three children, were killed on Monday when a house collapsed following heavy and continuous downpour in Hajia Gali village of Tehsil Havelian.
According to details, torrential rains have caused widespread devastation across Abbottabad district, triggering landslides, blocking major roads, and disconnecting dozens of villages from Abbottabad and Havelian city. Popular tourist areas, including Galyat and Thandiani, have also been severely affected, with road closures and disrupted communication reported from multiple locations.
The tragic incident occurred in Hajia Gali, within the jurisdiction of Nara Police Station, where a house caved in due to persistent rainfall. As a result, five people, including minors, were buried under the debris and lost their lives, while four others sustained injuries.
Police, along with local residents, carried out rescue operations, retrieving the bodies from the rubble and shifting the injured to nearby hospitals.
The situation across the region remains critical as several key roads have been blocked due to landslides, cutting off access to remote areas. In Abbottabad city, the situation is even more alarming, where flash flood water once again inundated the main Mansehra Road and entered residential as well as commercial areas, causing significant disruption to daily life.
Authorities have directed the Cantonment Board, WASA, and Rescue 1122 to monitor drains and water flow, while efforts are underway to clear choke points and restore road connectivity.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days, warning of possible flash floods and additional landslides in vulnerable areas, including Galyat and Thandiani.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from streams and fast-flowing water during flash floods, and immediately contact emergency services in case of any emergency.
