LG institutions constitutional term completes in KP

PESHAWAR, Mar 25 (APP): The constitutional term of local government completed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

From March 15, 2026, city, tehsil, village, and neighborhood councils have been dissolved and an official notification has been issued.

Following the end of the local government system, powers have been transferred to government officials, says officials in KP local government department.

According to the new notification from the Local Government Department, all powers of the Mayor of the Capital Metropolitan Government have been handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar.

Affairs of the City Local Government will be jointly managed by the Deputy Commissioner and Tehsil Municipal Officer.

Similarly, administrative matters of the Tehsil Local Government have been assigned to the Assistant Commissioner and the Tehsil Municipal Officer. Powers of village and neighborhood councils have been delegated to the Assistant Director (Senior) Local Government. This interim system will remain in place until the establishment of a new local government.
