KP Govt awards Rs 8mln grant to UoM for AI-based crop disease surveillance

The Directorate General of Science and Technology, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has awarded a research grant of Rs 8 million to Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and IT at the University of Malakand, Dr Fakhar Alam.

LOWER DIR, Mar 07 (APP): The Directorate General of Science and Technology, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has awarded a research grant of Rs 8 million to Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and IT at the University of Malakand, Dr Fakhar Alam.

According to a press release, the grant has been approved for the project titled “AI-Enabled Multi-Crop Disease Surveillance, Diagnosis and Treatment Advisory System.”

The project aimed to develop a system using artificial intelligence for early detection and treatment advisory of crop diseases, helping strengthen agriculture in the face of changing climate conditions.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Malakand, Prof Dr Rashid Ahmad, and Dean Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering, Prof Dr Jameel Ahmad, congratulated Dr Fakhar Alam on securing the research grant.

Additional Registrar Dr Fazal Akbar and Chairperson of the Chemistry Department, Prof Dr Mumtaz Ali, also extended their congratulations on the achievement.
