KP CM meets tribal peace jirga leaders, emphasizes stability

PESHAWAR, Apr 05 (APP): Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, here on Sunday met with leaders of the national peace jirga in Bajaur to discuss the overall security situation and efforts for lasting peace in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister praised the role of tribal elders, saying that their struggle for maintaining peace in the region is commendable.
He acknowledged their wisdom in handling difficult circumstances, calling their efforts valuable and worthy of appreciation.
Afridi stressed that peace was the foremost priority and an essential prerequisite for development and prosperity. Without peace, he said, no progress can be achieved.
He added that the current provincial government was fully committed to ensuring sustainable peace across the province.
He further revealed that a unanimous declaration had been presented on the floor of the provincial assembly, with leaders from all political parties and schools of thought agreeing that operations are not a solution to the problem.
Highlighting the consequences of past conflicts, the chief minister said that war against terrorism had severely damaged infrastructure, institutions, and the youth. “We cannot afford such a situation again,” he said.
Afridi emphasized that all stakeholders were united on the goal of peace and prosperity and would continue their collective struggle.
He added that efforts were being made to ensure that the region does not return to the conditions of instability it once faced.
He also underlined the importance of institutions performing their duties within their defined limits, stating that such discipline would help maintain peace and prevent future issues.
Announcing a major development initiative, the chief minister said that a special package worth Rs1 trillion is being prepared for the merged districts, with a particular focus on improving health and education sectors.
