KhUJ condemns attack on journalist in Timergara

The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) on Monday strongly condemned the attack on senior journalist and Khyber News correspondent Muhammad Israr Khan in Timergara and termed it a blatant assault on press freedom.

PESHAWAR, Mar 16 (APP):The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) on Monday strongly condemned the attack on senior journalist and Khyber News correspondent Muhammad Israr Khan in Timergara and termed it a blatant assault on press freedom.
In a statement issued from the KhUJ office, President Kashifuddin Syed, General Secretary Irshad Ali and other office-bearers expressed grave concern over the incident and the threats being issued to journalists.
They said the attack on journalist Muhammad Israr Khan was highly regrettable and condemnable, adding that journalists serve as the eyes and ears of society by highlighting public issues.
The union leaders noted that journalists in various parts of the country were facing threats and attacks while performing their professional duties, which was a matter of serious concern.
They urged the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of journalists and immediately arrest those involved in the incident and bring them to justice.
The KhUJ also reaffirmed its commitment to raising its voice at every forum for the protection of journalists’ rights and press freedom.
The statement warned that if immediate action was not taken against the culprits, the journalist community reserved the right to stage protests.
