Glaucoma week launched at HMC to promote early detection of eye disease

PESHAWAR, Mar 10 (APP):Health experts and hospital leaders on Tuesday emphasized the importance of early screening and timely treatment of glaucoma during the inauguration of Glaucoma Week at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC).
Speakers highlighted that glaucoma is a serious eye disease that can lead to permanent vision loss if not diagnosed at an early stage. They urged people to undergo regular eye examinations to protect their eyesight.
The event was organized by the Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO).
Chairman Board of Governors HMC Prof. Noor-ul-Iman attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Senior hospital officials, including Dean Prof. Shahzad Akbar, Medical Director Prof. Muhammad Mushtaq Khattak, and Hospital Director Dr. Gulzar were also present on the occasion.
Director PICO Prof. Sanaullah Jan briefed the participants on ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting community eye health.
Among other faculty members present were Chairperson Department of Ophthalmology Dr. Yousaf Jamal Mehsud and PICO faculty members, Dr. Siddiq Ullah, Dr. Mufarriq Shah, Dr. Junaid Faisal Wazir, and Dr. Parvez Akhtar.
During the week-long campaign, glaucoma screening services will be provided at the hospital, while various awareness activities will also be organized to educate the public about the disease and the importance of early detection.
