Acting on directives of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, authorities on Monday launched an extensive anti-encroachment campaign in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir to remove illegal structures and restore public spaces across the lakeside city. The operation, described as a comprehensive and determined effort, was carried out by the Mirpur Municipal Corporation and Mirpur Development Authority in coordination with the district administration.
AJK Supreme Court orders trigger major anti-encroachment drive in Mirpur

MIRPUR, Mar 9 (APP): Acting on directives of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, authorities on Monday launched an extensive anti-encroachment campaign in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir to remove illegal structures and restore public spaces across the lakeside city. The operation, described as a comprehensive and determined effort, was carried out by the Mirpur Municipal Corporation and Mirpur Development Authority in coordination with the district administration.
The drive began early from the central Shaheed Chowk, Mirpur and targeted unlawful constructions, roadside stalls and encroachments occupying roads and footpaths. Officials said the campaign was launched under the directives of Raja Tahir Imtiaz Khan and Raja Sadaqat Hussain, along with Mahmood Mumtaz Rathore and Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid, therefore ensuring the swift and effective enforcement of the court’s orders.
During the operation, municipal teams actively removed illegal installations along Allama Iqbal Road, Mirpur, stretching from Sher Alam Plaza Kalyal to Ghazi Elahi Bakhsh Girls Degree College, Mirpur. Meanwhile, stalls set up unlawfully and goods displayed on roads and footpaths were confiscated, while authorities worked to restore smooth traffic flow and pedestrian movement in the busy commercial area.
Officials further warned shopkeepers and vendors against occupying public spaces outside their businesses. Moreover, the estate management authorities stressed that strict action would immediately continue against violators, including confiscation of goods and legal proceedings against those involved in illegal encroachments, so that the city’s roads and footpaths remain clear, safe and accessible for the public.
