Iranian volleyball star Saber Kazemi dies at 26

Tehran, Nov 05 (IRNA/APP): Iran’s sports community is mourning the death of Saber Kazemi, a young up-and-coming volleyball star, who passed away early Wednesday at the age of 26.

Kazemi had been hospitalized in Tehran in recent days after suffering a severe brain condition. Despite continuous medical efforts to restore brain function, he was declared brain dead and passed away early this morning.

Kazemi, who was set to play for Qatar’s Al Rayyan club this season, suffered the brain complication on October 17 while recovering in a swimming pool. He was transferred from Doha to Tehran on October 27 with the coordination of Iran’s Volleyball Federation and a medical team.

His death has plunged Iranian volleyball and sports fans into deep grief.
