MINA, Jun 4 (APP):King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah has introduced a cutting-edge technology called “i-Selfie” during this year’s Hajj to enable rapid and accurate diagnosis of cardiac conditions.
Utilizing artificial intelligence and contactless sensing, this technology is the first of its kind in the Kingdom. It can assess key vital signs such as ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and body temperature within seconds—without the need for traditional medical devices or physical contact.
This innovation is part of King Abdullah Medical City’s pre-Hajj healthcare preparedness strategy and is operated under the Makkah Health Cluster. The technology has been deployed at initial triage points and emergency cardiac care units to handle the large number of critical cases efficiently.
Dr. Adel bin Abdulqader Tash, Executive Director General of the Medical City, described this development as the beginning of a new era in “smart healthcare.” He stated that “i-Selfie” not only accelerates diagnosis but also reduces the burden on medical staff and enhances real-time decision-making. According to him, the system has already demonstrated high accuracy in diagnosing several critical cardiac cases, enabling timely intervention and reducing complications.
The “i-Selfie” system relies on advanced visual and biometric sensors backed by AI algorithms, generating an instant health report for physicians. This rapid feedback facilitates swift clinical decisions, particularly in high-pressure settings like the Hajj season.
This project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals for digital transformation in healthcare, improved quality of life, and innovation-driven sustainability. It reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to modernizing health services and ensuring safe, efficient care for all.
Experts believe that beyond Hajj, technologies like “i-Selfie” will pave the way for wider adoption of smart healthcare solutions across the Kingdom’s medical facilities.
