BEIJING, Jun 24 (APP):The Global Digital Economy Conference 2025, themed ‘Building a Digitally Friendly City’, will kick off in Beijing on July 2. The conference will take the changes brought by digital technology to urban development as the main topic, fully demonstrating the results of Beijing’s construction of a benchmark city for the global digital economy.
“The GDEC 2025 has attracted more than 300 international guests from exceed 50 countries, as well as major international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the China-Central Asia Mechanism,” Liu Weiliang, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economics and Information Technology, introduced.
This year’s conference is committed to establishing a new platform for international cooperation by promoting the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to become a co-organizer for the first time, and reaching the UNDP Digital Friendly and Digital Economy Sustainable Innovation Lab project; establishing the Global Digital Economy City Alliance and launching international digital talent training projects with international organizations such as the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) , and the UN International Trade Center (ITC) to collect global digital economy lighthouse cases; promoting the IOC Esports Commission to set up a Beijing representative office to boost the high-quality development of Beijing’s e-sports industry and the enhancement of international influence.
At the same time, during the conference, 46 special forums will also be held in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence integration, digital security, and digital medical care, including the Digital Economy “She Power” Forum, the Global Open-Source Innovation Development Forum, and the International E-sports Development Forum, CEN reported.
The digital economy has become a key force in reshaping the global competitive. In the first quarter of this year, the added value of Beijing’s digital economy increased by 8.3 percent year-on-year, of which core industries increased by 9.7 percent. From January to May, the Beijing International Big Data Exchange added 152 new high-quality data products, with the on-site transaction scale exceeding 44 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 37.63 percent.
Taking Artificial Intelligence as an example, Beijing’s top artificial intelligence talents account for 43 percent of the country’s total, and owns 14 national key laboratories in the field of AI. Up to now, a total of 132 large models have been registered and launched in the city, accounting for 35 percent of the country.
