HYDERABAD, Jul 11 (APP):The District Population Office Hyderabad organized a seminar to raise awareness about population-related challenges and the importance of family planning in Pakistan, in connection with world population day.
The event highlighted key issues including access to education, healthcare and employment for youth, women’s health and prevention of early marriages, premarital counseling and the inclusion of content about women’s rights in educational curricula.
District Population Welfare Officer Bakht Ali Siyal, Deputy Director Dr. Khalida Shaikh, Aamir Budhvi, Taluka Officer Nadia Parveen, Razaque Umrani, Saadia Parveen, Shadab Gul and others spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that 65% of the country’s population comprises youth, and empowering them through education and awareness was crucial for national development. They said that the growing population was putting pressure on the resources, which requires raising public awareness to deal with.
They also stated that the average number of children per couple in Pakistan stands at 3.6 and the target was 2.6, therefore promoting family planning was essential to ensure the health and well-being of mothers, fathers and children alike.
The speakers stated that gender equality, premarital counseling system and involvement of religious and social leaders were the need of the hour so that the family system becomes prosperous and balanced. The speakers also urged the media to play a more positive and effective role in spreading awareness among the public.
