Wild boar released to natural habitat, man arrested, fined

MUZAFFARGARH, Nov 28 (APP): The Wildlife Department’s Ranger team in Layyah recovered a wild boar that had been illegally confined for the purpose of dog fighting, officials said on Friday, adding that the suspect involved was arrested and Rs. 170,000 fine was imposed on him.
According to the Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Layyah, a special raid squad acting on a tip-off, along with the Wildlife Ranger staff of Tehsil Choubara, conducted a joint operation in Chak No. 444 TDA. During the raid, the team seized a wild boar kept in illegal captivity and took the accused into custody, who was later placed behind bars.
The official added that the recovered animal was released back into its natural habitat after completion of legal formalities, while the accused was penalized with a fine of Rs170,000 for violating wildlife protection laws.
Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Layyah Rao Kashif Hameed said that protection of wildlife remains a top priority of the department. He noted that the Punjab government has imposed a strict ban on all forms of animal fighting as well as the illegal captivity of wild animals and birds, with heavy fines being enforced against violators.
