RAWALPINDI, Nov 16 (APP): The University of Lahore (UoL) won the All Pakistan Women Rowing Championship 2025–2026, organized by Rawalpindi Women University (RWU). The tournament witnessed fierce competitions and inspiring performances from the participating teams across the country. Punjab University secured second position, while Lahore Garrison University took third.
The closing ceremony was held at RWU where the Chairperson of the Organization for Peace and Culture, and Kashmiri freedom leader Yasin Malik’s wife, Mushaal Hussain Mullick. In her address, she emphasized that Pakistani women possess remarkable talents in sports and every sphere of life, and events like these provide young athletes with ample opportunities to excel at the national level.
Appreciating RWU’s contribution in promoting sporting activities she said that the increasing participation of women is a testament to the positive and encouraging direction in which the sports environment in the country is progressing. She further noted that rowing is not only a symbol of physical strength but also highlights discipline, courage, and sportsmanship. Sharing a personal connection, she revealed that rowing has a strong culture in Srinagar, where she herself was involved in the sport, giving her a deep understanding of how it fosters endurance, teamwork, and self-confidence in youth. Expressing delight at the enthusiastic participation of female athletes, she affirmed that they have truly proven their ability to tackle any challenge with determination and resolve.
Mushaal added that true success lies not merely in winning, but in how a player confronts obstacles with spirit and perseverance.
“Pressure, hard work, and continuous struggle polish a person into a diamond,” she said.
Addressing the young athletes, she said such competitions boost their confidence and pave the way for international advancement.
In her message, Vice Chancellor of Rawalpindi Women University, Professor Dr. Bushra Mirza, congratulated the winning teams and stated that the true identity of any university is shaped by the environment it provides to its students. She elaborated that the university’s goal extends beyond academic success; it aims to create an educational system where critical thinking, leadership confidence, and a passion for healthy activities flourish together. “Rawalpindi Women University is providing women with a platform where research, education, and sports complement each other,” she said.
The VC further described the championship as not only a milestone in promoting sports but also a practical demonstration of the endurance, discipline, and leadership qualities of young women.
The championship saw participation from teams of 21 universities across the country which was the highest turnout yet for inter-university women’s rowing events. The two-day competition featured races in various categories, including 2000m Open Weight Single, 1000m Double Lightweight, 500m Open Weight, 500m Relay, and 1000m Double Open Weight.
Dr. Huma Fawad, Additional Registrar, extended thanks to the guests, the Higher Education Commission, the Rowing Federation, all participating teams, and Organizing Secretary Sadaf Parveen for the successful execution of the event.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from higher education, the President of the Pakistan Rowing Federation, and managers and directors from universities nationwide. In the finale, guests, the Director of Sports, and organizers distributed awards, trophies, and shields to the participants.
