MUZAFFARGARH, Jan 02 (APP): The district administration of Layyah announced a reduction in local transport fares by up to four percent with the consent of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), marking the first administrative decision at the onset of the new year.
According to a spokesperson for the district administration, a meeting of the District Transport Authority (RTA) was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shabbir Ahmad Dogar. The meeting was attended by RTA Inspector Asif, Assistant Secretary RTA, and other concerned transport officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC (General) said that a significant reduction in petroleum product prices had occurred and its benefits must be passed on to the public. He said it was therefore decided in principle to reduce fares by three percent for local commuting vehicles and by four percent for heavy diesel-powered transport.
He urged transporters to cooperate with the district administration to curb prices and provide relief to passengers. The ADC directed the transport authority to display the revised fare lists at all bus stands and ensure strict implementation.
He further instructed officials to monitor fares on different routes, ensure transporters charge reduced fares from passengers, and also examine vehicle maintenance during inspections.
