PESHAWAR, Aug 27 (APP):The Secretary of Energy and Power, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Zubair Khan, has said that transparency in the financial matters of energy projects and use of developmental funds on merit are the top priorities of the government.
He said that all officers of the institution, especially field staff working on ongoing energy projects in the province, are obliged to promptly inform the department about all financial matters, including expenses.
He warned that in case of corruption and negligence in the financial matters of the projects, strict action will be taken against the officers involved. In light of the orders of the Chief Secretary, monitoring of all matters of ongoing projects has been tightened.
He expressed these views in a meeting held with the top officials of all the subordinate institutions of the Energy Department regarding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Good Governance Roadmap.
Additional Secretary Admin Shoaib Khan, Additional Secretary Power Anwar Khan Sherani, Chief Executive PEDO Engineer Habibullah Shah, Senior Chief Planning Officer Syed Zahir Shah Kazmi and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
Giving a briefing on the occasion, the Chief Executive Provincial Energy Development Organization (PEDO) said that discussions are underway with KPEZDMC under the direct supply model regarding the sale of electricity generated from PEDO’s two recently completed major hydropower projects, namely the Koto Hydropower Project and Jabori Hydropower Project, and PEDO has already appointed an economic affairs expert.
Furthermore, these projects will generate billions of rupees annually for the province.
It was informed in the meeting that work is progressing rapidly on 72 projects under the second phase of mini-micro-hydel stations in the province.
However, the Secretary of Energy issued strict instructions to the authorities, urging them to formulate a transparent repayment mechanism for foreign funding loans for these projects.
He further directed project authorities of Gabral Kalam and Maden Power Projects being implemented in Swat district with the support of the World Bank, to inform about all matters and instructed the CEO PEDO to keep a close eye on the timely and quality completion of all energy projects within the timelines he urged.
