LAHORE, Nov 15 (APP): Traffic police and related departments across Punjab have ramped up their efforts to eliminate smog and reduce environmental pollution. On the instructions of DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir, a strict crackdown is underway against vehicles emitting smoke.
According to traffic police sources, over Rs97 million in fines were imposed on vehicles emitting smoke this month, marking an 85 percent increase in operations compared to the previous month. More than 48,400 vehicles were issued challans for emitting smoke, while over 7,700 vehicles were stopped on the spot. Additionally, fitness certificates of 10 vehicles were suspended for environmental violations, and the route permits of more than 16 vehicles were also revoked. FIRs were registered against seven vehicles, and over 2,100 on-cord trolleys carrying sand and soil faced hefty fines.
DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir appealed to citizens to ensure regular maintenance and repair of their vehicles to support the ongoing efforts to reduce smog. He emphasized that all staff have been mobilized to make Punjab smog-free and urged public cooperation in achieving this goal.
