Timely wheat sowing essential for country’s food security

MULTAN, Nov 01 (APP): Deputy Commissioner, Waseem Hamid Sindhu, said that timely sowing of wheat was inevitable for the country’s food security including Punjab.
The Punjab government has initiated special measures to ensure timely and large-scale wheat cultivation across the province.
A seminar on the wheat cultivation campaign was held in Multan under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Waseem Hamid Sindhu.
Addressing the seminar, he highlighted that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, revolution was being brought in the agriculture sector.
The awareness seminar was attended by Additional Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Abdul Jabbar, Rana Ejaz Noon, political representatives, and a large number of farmers.
DC further said that interest-free agricultural loans were being provided through the Kisan Card scheme. He urged farmers to complete wheat sowing by November 20, describing the current weather conditions as ideal for cultivation.
He said that certified seeds and using approved varieties was being ensured to ensure maximum yield. He added that a target of 400,000 acres has been set for wheat cultivation in Multan district, while across Punjab, wheat will be cultivated on 16.5 million acres, including 1.776 million acres in Multan Division.
