LAHORE, Jul 04 (APP): Principal of Ameer Uddin Medical College and Lahore General Hospital, Professor Dr. Farooq Afzal, has emphasized the life-saving importance of timely blood donation, particularly for accident victims. He was addressing an awareness walk organized by the Blood Donation Society of Ameer Uddin Medical College at Lahore General Hospital on Friday.
Highlighting the alarming rise in road accidents due to the fast pace of modern life and technological advancements, Prof. Afzal said that injuries and fatalities have surged, making the availability of blood more critical than ever. “If accident victims are given blood on time, many lives can be saved,” he said.
He urged the public, especially the youth, to understand their moral and religious responsibility to donate blood regularly. Quoting a verse from the Holy Quran, he stated, “Whoever saves one life, it is as if he has saved all of humanity.”
He added that donating blood is not only a humanitarian act but also a source of spiritual satisfaction. “It is a noble gesture that brings inner peace to the donor,” he noted.
Prof. Afzal explained that during major accidents and natural disasters, injured individuals often require urgent blood transfusions. Similarly, many surgical procedures depend on multiple units of blood. Unfortunately, a lack of awareness and common misconceptions prevent even close relatives from donating.
He reassured that blood donation is safe for healthy individuals, who can donate one unit every six months without any harm. He appealed to media outlets and welfare organizations to play their part in spreading awareness and encouraging the public to contribute to this life-saving cause.
The event was attended by MS Prof. Faryad Hussain, Prof. Farhan Rasheed, Prof. Nazish Saqlain, Principal of Nursing College Rubina Inam, Dr. Abdul Aziz, medical students, and a large number of healthcare professionals.
