KOHAT, Dec 01 (APP): The first anniversary of the historic Kohat agreement, aimed at establishing durable peace in the tribal district Kurram was observed here on Monday.
In an event presided over by the Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah and attended by the members of the Grand Jirga, parliamentarians, local elders, tribal notables and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kurram Amir Nawaz and all partie expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved under the Kohat agreement.
They reaffirmed commitment to implementing every clause in letter and spirit. Participants praised the positive role played by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, particularly the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Commissioner Kohat, along with the Pakistan Army, security agencies, district administration, police and the Grand Jirga in ensuring the agreement’s success.
Following the ceremonial “nailing of over a thousand Bunkers” discussions moved to the next phase, focusing on road development and the resolution of land disputes.
Parties agreed to unconditionally accept all the decisions of the Land Commission, established under the Commissioner Kohat headeship.
Commissioner Shah said the Grand Jirga, Land Commission and local administration operate with impartiality, beyond sectarian, tribal or regional affiliations. He appealed to the local population to avoid internal unrest in light of regional security concerns and strengthen the hands of the army and security agencies.
He further announced the establishment of a local Cyber Crime Office to curb negative propaganda on social media and ensure timely legal compensation for the affected individuals.
The Commissioner emphasized that the Land Commission will make merit-based decisions in full consultation with the local elders and communities.
